Chico Declared 10th Fair Trade Town
Published February 27, 2009 @ 01:45PM PT
Chico, a city in Northern California also referred to as the City of Roses will now also be known as the tenth town in the United States to gain Fair Trade Town status. Chico had their ribbon cutting ceremony on Valentine's Day and joined the ranks of other towns such as Taos, New Mexico, Media, Pennsylvania and my beloved San Francisco who all share the same honor.
Chico's Peace and Justice Center have been working hard to get Chico their Fair Trade Town status. They were able to gather 17 business around town to sign a pledge to action stating their support for Fair Trade principles and to carry Fair Trade products at their shops. Cecilia Robinson, a local business owner and originally from Ghana was one of the first to sign the pledge.
I know there are a lot of people around the world that need help. If we are supporting them and helping the market, we are doing good.
The Chico Peace and Justice Center has a list of all 17 local business supporting the pledge and helped make Chico's Fair Trade Town status possible. Read more about Chico's exciting news then check out the Fair Trade towns website to see how you can make your city a Fair Trade Town.
