PETITION TEXT:
Last week, 54 House members sent President Obama a letter describing a trade reform agenda about which they are excited to work with him to implement. The week before, over 350 labor, environmental, faith and family farm organizations sent a letter calling for a “New Day on Trade.” On issues ranging from renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) to creating new import safety policies to remedying the failed U.S.-China trade relationship, these letters focus largely on implementing Obama's campaign pledges to transform U.S. trade and globalization policies.
Fifteen years of the NAFTA/World Trade Organization (WTO) model has led to massive job loss, downward pressure on wages and the loss of nearly 300,000 family farms. It’s given broad, expansive new rights to foreign corporations to challenge our environmental and public health standards and flooded the United States with unsafe imported food and products. And, it has devastated developing nations where millions of family farmers have been forced off their land and poverty, despair and desperation-driven mass migrations have grown.
Please join with your colleagues in Congress and millions of Americans from across this nation calling for a new day on trade. I know the special interests who pushed those failed past agreements will be fighting against the change Americans voted for during the past election. I am relying on you to stand up for me, our community and all of our fellow Americans.
I urge you to work with the Obama administration to oppose the remaining Bush hangover Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Panama, Colombia and South Korea, and replace them with a trade agenda that seeks to replace the failed NAFTA-WTO model.
The Trade Reform, Accountability, Development and Employment (TRADE) Act, introduced last summer by Rep. Mike Michaud (D-Maine) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), lays out principles for what a strong U.S. trade policy could be. I urge you to consider signing onto this legislation as an original cosponsor when it is reintroduced in the 111th Congress.
As a constituent, I look forward to hearing your response. Please respond to my email, hopefully letting me know you will reject any Bush-negotiated NAFTA-expansion FTAs and will sponsor the TRADE Act so we can move forward towards a new trade agenda that works.
Sincerely,
----------------------------------------------------------
Tell your members of Congress to help Obama deliver his campaign promises for a new trade model.

Trading fairly is one of the major causes of world conflict. Many people around the world suffer the consequences of U.S. purchases and are exploited in factories and horrible working conditions that unfortunately become the only way of life and support for families all over the world. To promote fair trade is to promote peace.

I went and signed the petition. I am curious, where can I see his new reform agenda. I would really like to read more about what parts he wants to reform and what remians the same.

Trade reform commitments must be honored by developed countries, such as the United States, and supported by its citizenry. It is the responsibility of each and every citizen to hold elected leaders accountable in honoring such commitments by calling for the creation of legislation that will not only be financially forward-thinking, but also morally inspired by an overriding ethos of fairness and equality.
